Peer Discussion Groups

TUCSON DAYTIME  peer discussion groups are held every Tuesday, year round, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the ALOHA office at 4001 E. Ft. Lowell Rd., Tucson AZ. Individuals thinking about purchasing a hearing aid or other listening device come to ask advice, get answers to questions, share their experiences and receive support. Family members are also welcome. September through June, on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, ALOHA invites a featured speaker with expertise in an area of interest to the Hard of Hearing to make a presentation to the group. Past speakers include physicians from the University of Arizona, representatives from therapy dog organizations, audiologists and other professionals in the field.

TUCSON EVENING peer discussion groups are held every Tuesday, year round, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the ALOHA office at 4001 E. Ft. Lowell Rd., Tucson AZ. Individuals thinking about purchasing a hearing aid or other listening device come to ask advice, get answers to questions, share their experiences and receive support. Guest speakers are periodically included in the group.

GREEN VALLEY: The group meetings are held at La Posada in the Recreation Room. The meetings are held on the 1st Monday of every month, October through May from 10:00 a.m. to Noon and are open to everyone.  The Recreation Room is looped and has a great sound system so everyone can hear. There are other special listening devices available for those who might need them.

SIERRA VISTA: In 2011, Karl Hallsten established a peer discussion group in Sierra Vista. Currently, this hearing loss discussion group with information sharing is held in Fry’s Thrive (located in the Sierra Vista Mall). Meetings are held on the 1st Monday of each month from 11:00 to Noon, October through May.

ORO VALLEYThe Oro Valley Peer Discussion Group meets the 3rd Thursday of the month, October through May, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm at the Santa Catalina Catholic Church (Cholla & Ocotillo Meeting Rooms), 14380 N. Oracle Road; Tucson, AZ 85739.  Each month, Beth McKenzie, the meeting facilitator, introduces a different guest speaker who speaks about a subject related to hearing loss. The meetings are in a looped room so everyone can hear.

TUCSON EASTSIDE (FAR HORIZONS): The Tucson Eastside support group meets the 3rd Friday of each month, including the summer months, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm  in the Main Clubhouse Card Room at the Far Horizons East; 7570 East Speedway Boulevard, Tucson, AZ 85710.  The meeting room is looped for use with telecoils and the discussions are facilitated by Jim Lootens.

DESERT COCHLEAR CONNECTIONS:  The Desert Cochlear Connections meetings are for individuals who have or are considering getting Cochlear Implants. The meetings are held on the 2nd Saturday of each month, October through May, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.  There are presentations by noted experts in the field and Question and Answer sessions each month   Information is provided about implants from experts and other implanted individuals. Meetings are held in ALOHA’s building at 4001 E. Ft. Lowell Rd., Tucson in the looped conference room. CART transcription, live captioning projected on a screen, is provided.
