At today’s Third Tuesday Educational Seminar, ALOHA Board Member, Cynthia Amerman, will be sharing a presentation about Arizona celebrities who wore noise-blocking ear molds to experience life with hearing loss.  Join us at ALOHA (4001 E. Fort Lowell) today, May 16th at 1 pm and participate in the discussion. 

This Friday, May 19th at 1:00 pm, Jim Lootens will be facilitating the last monthly Far Horizons East peer support group meeting before summer break.  It is a great opportunity to share summer travel strategies and discuss potential areas of interest for guest speakers in the fall.  The ALOHA meetings at FHE are held in the Main Clubhouse (7570 E. Speedway).  Hope to see you at both meetings!

Michele Michaels will be speaking in Oro Valley this Thursday!

Join us in Oro Valley this Thursday, May 11th from 2:00 – 3:00 pm for Michele Michaels’ discussion on Emergencies and the HOH. Bring your questions, she’ll have the answers!

The ALOHA Peer Support Group in Oro Valley meets at the Santa Catalina Catholic Church (Cholla & Ocotillo rooms), 14380 N. Oracle Road.

Michele Michaels, B.A., C.P.M., is the Hard of Hearing Specialist for the State of Arizona at the Arizona Commission for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing. She provides outreach, education, training, resources, empowerment, information, and referrals to Arizonans. She began working in the field of hearing loss 24 years ago after a 12-year career in broadcasting. A hard of hearing person herself and the daughter of a parent who progressively lost her hearing, Michele understands the challenges and opportunities inherent in hearing loss.

Michele graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Human Communication and a minor in Anthropology from Arizona State University. In 2011 she graduated from ASU’s Certified Public Manager program. Michele is a Director on the Board of Directors for the Area Agency on Aging, Region 1 and serves as its Secretary, as well as being a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging: Aging in Community Committee. She also holds a position on the Speech and Hearing Professionals Advisory Committee at the Arizona Department of Health Services and is a member of the Arizona Loans for Assistive Technology committee as well as serving as a grant reviewer for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing grant at the Arizona Community Foundation.

TONIGHT, Audiologists Pam Wood and Cristi Moore will be presenting “Living with Tinnitus: Management Strategies” for the second time this spring!  Join us at ALOHA this evening, Tuesday, May 2nd from 7-8 pm and bring your questions for the post-presentation Q & A chat!  

Pamela Wood, Audiologist and owner of Southwest Hearing Care Inc., has been providing services in Tucson since 1982.  Pam is an audiology consultant for the Marana Unified School District and a master trainer for the State of Arizona School Hearing Screening Program.  She has served on the ALOHA board of directors since 1984 and is the instructor of our ever popular Speech Reading & Communication class.

Cristi Moore, Doctor of Audiology and owner of Sonora Hearing Care LLC, has been caring for patients with hearing loss since moving to Tucson in 2000.  Cristi is a preceptor for the University of Arizona Speech and Hearing Department Audiology Program.  She has served on the ALOHA board of directors since 2011.  Cristi has tinnitus herself and will share her personal experiences at the presentation.
